General Description

 

The Part-Time School Safety & Security Liaison supports the safety and security operations of the school by monitoring surveillance systems, screening building entry points, and assisting in maintaining a secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position works collaboratively with school administration and local law enforcement partners to promote a safe and orderly campus.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor and control access to the school building.

  • Screen visitors, staff, and students using the XtractOne Weapons Detection System and handheld screening wands.

  • Monitor complex-wide surveillance camera systems to identify and respond to disruptions or safety concerns.

  • Maintain a visible security presence at designated entrances and school events.

  • Provide assistance and direction to students, staff, and visitors.

  • Prepare and submit daily logs and written incident reports.

  • Communicate and collaborate with school administrators, office staff, and School Resource Officers.

  • Participate in security-related training, including coordination with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Department and  Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services
  • Use two-way radios and other communication devices effectively and professionally.

  • Exercise sound judgment and respond appropriately in emergency or high-stress situations.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Demonstrated ability to observe and assess situations accurately.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.

  • Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a security officer or guard.

  • Law enforcement experience.

  • Military experience.

Compensation

Starting pay: $26.50 per hour

 

Supervisor: Building Principal


FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
 

Work Schedule

Primarily assigned to after-school events. Typical hours are Monday–Friday, 3:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., with additional hours as needed based on school activities and events.
